For some reason, this is driving me mad.  I watched a TV series around 93/94 on British TV.  It was about a manic American TV stand up comic, working in the UK, with a sort of death wish.  (It wasn't a comedy).  His mother had drowned herself and his sister when he was young.  She was a hippy and reckoned she was going to the Land of Dreams.  The opening scene featured the song Stay With Me Baby, as the mother walked into the sea.  I know, it sounds gruesome.  But can anyone else remember it?

Yes, yes that's the one blueeyedlass - I didn't just dream it.  Do you remember what it was called or anyone who was in it.  Every time I hear Stay With Me I think of that scene.
man im with you i thought i had dreamed this up to , i dont actually remember alot about it but i remembered him in the kitchen looking for biscuits because he was an ex addict and i remembered the motorbike bit at the end,and when you said about the mother drowning i cn actually picture that in my head with her walking into the water carrying the little girl and looking back and you see the wee boy.

It was a series by Linda LaPlante called "COMICS" the tagline was "Dead Funny". A serious an disturbing potrayal of a talented comic who just couldn't overcome his demons. In one scene he's in the dressing room and someone asks him if he want's anything, without realising that he's a recovering alcoholic, among other things, and he thinks about it and then cracks and orders a bottle of vodka and some beers. Later goes on stage drunk and gives a totally bullying cringe worthy performance.

Very gutsy series.

Thank you so much Loosehead - you've made a "getting on a bit" woman very happy.

By the way Loosehead, do you know where I could get any info on the series - can't seem to find any on the net?  Thanks.
