Petrol in deisel car

My mums car has begun making a blowing noise like when there is a hole in the exhaust. When taken to the garage the mechanic said that he could smell petrol although my mum is sure she hasnt put any in. She has definately filled car with deisel on the last two occasions and has driven over 500 miles. Could this noise be something to do with petrol in diesel car? Thanks Jodie

How old is it?
I think with modern diesels they just won't run petrol in em.

Its an 07' vauxhall corsa.

The noise has nothing to do with petrol being put in a diesel, did the garage check the exhaust?,
