Who is the biggest hypocrite Brown or Cameron ? They have both betrayed us. They both promised in their typical mealy mouthed ways that we would get the opportunity to express our opinion on the EU. They have both wriggled out of it .
They both talked tough on the expenses racket but are not pursuing the major fraudsters with their house flipping and capital gains avoidance . Is there anything to pick between them ?

As David Cameron said today, how can he have a referendum on accepting the treaty when it has already been accepted?
In fairness, at least Cameron is being honest. Did he know 2 years ago that the Lisbon Treaty would be ratified by the back door? There's no point in holding a referendum on it now. It's done and dusted. That's not to say I agree with it. I think the way this has happened is ripe for pushing the electorate into the hands of UKIP. And that is Labour's fault.

I agree there is no point in having a vote on Lisbon now but we could still have a vote on what we think about the EU. If Cameron didn't know Lisbon would be ratified by the back door , why not ? Everyone else did .. The fact that they kept having repeat votes until they got the answer they wanted should have shown him that they were determined to get their own way one way or the other. His promise today that it won't happen again is meaning less. The Lisbon Treaty will now allow the rules and regulations to be added and amended without reference to the electorate. So Cameron will not be able to do anything about it .
sorry modeller but I was bought up to believe that there are 3 Ps you cant trust, Politicians, Police and Priests (or Parsons) and I have found it is very often the case, I used to argue against this idea, but I am much disillusioned these days.

You may be right cecil39 dut I would put them in reverse order because Priests are also politicians and have been for thousands of years . They use politics to peddle their mythology .
We elect politicians to run the country in our best interests.

Being in a strong EU is in our best interests.

If everything was decided by an X-factor vote of the people the country would be run by the newspapers and it'd be on it's knees in 6 months
jake......

Your first sentence.........I agree.

Your second sentence.........maybe?

Your final paragraph........I agree.
It would be worse when Cameron is Prime Minister, we have our referendum and it has no effect.
Question Author
I agree that a strong EU should be in our best interests but the present EU is not strong and 27 countries each with its own agenda never can have the same power as single units like China, US , and Russia.
Where is our unity at the moment ? Each country is going its own way to combat the financial situation , the most blatant being Germany bribing Magna to keep open the Opel plant, and on the military front who is doing most of the fighting amongst the EU members ?
The Brussel bureaucrats will continue to churn out thousands of regulations and Cameron will be not able to do anything about it. The European court will continue to overrule our laws and allow terrorists to go free.
