Accessing a port number in IE8

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and IE8 on my home PC. I now cannot access port 3000 on a URL that I need for my corporate webmail.

Is there an issue with this or does it have to be entered differently than on previous versions of IE?

I used to put a :3000 on the end of the URL and it worked fine on Vista with IE7.

Any help appreciated...

Why not just go back to IE7 to find out?

I had a problem (completely unrelated to yours) that was simply down to "upgrading" to IE8; going back to IE7 sorted it out, and since I use Firefox I have no intention of trying IE8 again.

Well I know it works in IE7 so I don't need to try it out. I also know it works in Firefox but my question is how to make it work in IE8 or whether there is a problem with this in IE8.

The port number is a standard described in several RFC's, and as such, if IE8 can't do this, it's a serious bug.

I'd suggest using Firefox if possible anyway (or at least checking with Firefox to see if it works there).

I don't use IE8, and can't tell you definitively if this is some bug or lack of feature. However, I suspect it may be an overactive security system, stopping you from using non-standard port numbers. Perhaps have a look in the settings and see if anything looks like it shouldn't be.
