Is there a way to stop HUGE emails being downloaded? Some pillock keeps trying to send something that literally takes HOURS to download and so clogs up my email programm so I can't send or receive anything else while this one is downloading. I've had to disable that particular email address just so I can use my other three addresses.

Are you able to check that email account via the web ? If so, check it, look for the email or emails you don't want and delete them, then do your download
Or you could install QuickDelete: http://www.yeti-soft.de/eng/index.html
You just configure it with the same POP3 settings as your e-mail client.
Run it, and it downloads the headers only, shows whether there are any attachments, and the size.
Highlight the ones that are causing a problem, mark them, and click Delete.
There's also "Mailwasher" from www.mailwasher.net which lets you see your e-mails before you download them from the ISP web site and gives you the opportunity to delete then if necessary.
I've used this for about 10 years now.
Signup for a webmail account like yahoo.
If you're using Outlook Express go to the tools tab and enter their email address as a blocked sender.
You shouldn't need extra software to stop this problem. Many email clients have account options that allow you to "download message headers only" in their server settings. That would nullify the problem, since you can then choose to manually start downloading these messages when you want, instead of when you fetch the mail from the server.
