i know but although shes 12 and not a baby today she felt very much like a little girl im not good at seeing my kids in pain im dreading it when she has to have them removed
I had to have teeth taken out and then was told I would need fixed braces. I was so upset and in end opted for removable braces on top teeth. Looking back I really wish I;d had them on all and straightened my bottom ones too. As it would have only been a couple of years and my teeth would look so much better now.
Question Author
she has to have these weird elastic band things on them as well removable ones were not part of the option
tell her having the teeth removed doesnt hurt one bit...... its the injections that do it lol. Sorry, she will be fine
They wernt an option given to me but I said I only wanted top ones so had a removable one in end, mine did have little elastic bands on
My 15 year old daughter had her braces removed last month after having to wear them for about 2 years ( the type with those little elastic bands ). Her teeth are now perfectly straight.

im sure she will be ok she has a few months to get used to the idea i know the end result will be worth it i just dont like the thought of her haveing teeth removed (and its not even my teeth!!!!!!)
Question Author
thanks for all the advise im going now to research some before and after brace pics to show my daughter talk soon xx
I know how you feel. My 13 year old has got to have braces fitted next week. Had 4 teeth removed as they were overcrowded, she is actually looking forward to having them fitted, it is thought of as a fashion icon at her school, they have multi-coloured braces now too (if you want them)..!!?? I personally think braces look ugly, BUT imagine what lovely straight teeth they will have in 2 years time. Good luck.
I, too, had 4 teeth removed prior to having my braces (upper and lower) fitted. Unfortunately, the orthodontist miscalculated and I was left with two highly visible, full-sized, gaps directly behind my upper canine teeth. As I continued to grow, so did my jaw and the room for my teeth to be pressed back into appeared naturally, and he hadn't allowed for this.
He did have the grace to fashion a bridge with false teeth to hide these gaps, but the clips to keep it in place were (I felt) just as noticeable as the gaps !

Do confirm that the extractions ARE necessary as reversing the procedure is not easily acheived :o). Perhaps your orthodontist has warned you that eventually, the extractions may be necessary IF the required space doesn't appear naturally.

However, it is now only when prompted that I remember having to wear the darned things...........and I can still remember the sheer joy when they came off and I was able to display a (nearly) perfect set of gnashers.
My daughter has two teeth removed and braces on for 18 months... she has now got the most gorgeous smile and the confidence to go with it. I\'m sure she\'ll be fine!!
