Hi,

I think I've got a tablet stuck in my throat, around the upper chest. I had a gelatine capsule (DulcoEase stool softener - which contains docusate sodium I just found out). I took it about 3 hours ago with water, but obviously not enough and they are a slightly awkward shape. I've just been eating some bread, tried a banana, drinking lots of water and having a hot drink to try and disslodge/dissolve the capsule. It's an uncomfortable feeling and it's moved down my throat since I tried these things, but feels like it's in the left side of my upper chest. I get a burning feeling when I swallow and it's just uncomfortable really. Trying not to worry about it, but should I get a doctor/see my local pharmacy to check it out? I don't know if the tablet I took will cause damage to my throat. And I don't know when the feeling that the tablet is there will disappear? Thank you for any advice.

If the tablet was taken 3 hours ago it will have already dissolved. You may have scratched your throat when swallowing and this will make it feel like the tablet is lodged there still.
If you feel you still need medical help then definitely call your surgery and ask to see someone.
As daffy says, you may have scratched or bruised your gullet, which will make it swell and feel as though the tablet is lodged, even though it will have disolved by now.

A Gaviscon tablet will alleviate the acid, but if symptoms persist, see your GP.

Thanks for your answers. It's still uncomfortable when I swallow but I think it's less painful than last night. I think I'll wait to see how I feel today and then if it's still a problem, see the docs tomorrow. Like Daffy said, it probably dissolved in my throat when I was asleep so maybe it's aggrivated my throat.
How old are you?
Have you had any problems swallowing previous to this?
Have you had any earache?
Are you male or female?
