I clearly wasn't on the ball yesterday. We went to our vets to have some photos done of our dogs. We were told by our vet that he was booking the photographer in for that day (other people were using him ) and we were not obliged to buy any photos if we didn't want to. Thats fine we thought.

Anyway, got there, had photos done, were then told that it was £35.00 fee and this includes a small photo in a cardboard frame that would be ready in two weeks. I said that we did not know we had to pay any money but because we were put on the spot and the vet wasn;t around to ask them about it, we paid them by giving my partners credit card details. I know, I know, really stupid.

I have now been brewing since then and I am getting a bit angry. I wish to ring the photographer up and cancel the photo and ask for a refund, but where do I stand?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ring the photographer, cancel the order & ask for a refund. You did pose with your dog and had his service, the paid for photos are now your property - so its up to the photographers goodwill for a refund.

If you do get the refund the photos remain his and he can then use them as he sees fit - if they win 1st in an exhibition you will have no claim. leave things be if only to show your gullibility - cheap lesson!

We saw all the photos on his laptop, and to be honest probably only one or two were decent enough to buy.
My bugbear was that we were not told about the fee. As I have said, if we were told, we wouldn't have done it.
This also applies when you have photos taken of family etc by one of these professional photographers. They normally have a stand in the local shopping centre. The £35.00 is normally refundable if you spend money on a set of large photos. The reason they say it is free is because you are not paying for the photographer's time just the photos. I know it sounds nuts but thats how it works.

The vet has misled you and I would complain, but I can imagine he would only say, you should'nt have paid the £35.00.
My advice is cancel the Credit Card payment and find yourself another vet, next time you go there he`ll stripe you up on your bill or even worse....Rover gets it

Thanks for your answers everyone. I am going to call the vet and photographer today and tell them the situation. Yes a lesson learnt. Although a few years ago I went to a phoptographer for my daughter and we only paid for the photo's. Guess times have changed.
Our kids school regularly has photographers round, and we are sent proofs. We only pay if we like them, so it is common practice among photographers.

I can fully understand therefore why you were not expecting a fee.

I would complain to the vet about misleading you.

Elvis, cancelling a credit card payment is not an option.
Whenever I got kids pictures done in school I never had to pay until I got photos and inspected them

Hi Guys.
Spoke to the photographer yesterday and explained the situation. He was happy to not go ahead with our payment and agreed that we were misled.
I will be ringing the vets today.

Thank you for all your answers. Very helpful indeed.
You've dressed your dog up as a fireman and a sailor vibra? Cool.... the furthest we got with our Bruno was the black glasses, collar and tie. But he was a man's dog... not something out of the Village People for Dogs Brigade
