bickering sisters

my 2 daughters aged 12 and 9 seem to be constantly bickering. I know this is normal, and sometimes they can play for hours together without a problem, but just recently it seems that every 5 mins they are at each others throats! ( not literally!) They start to play together quite nicely, and then one or the other upsets the other one and then - that's it all hell breaks loose - shouting at each other, storming off etc etc. We have tried ignoring it to a certain extent, but the last couple of times it has happened, i have sent them up to their rooms to cool of for a while. Others say i should leave them to it, but it is very frustrating when you are having to listen to it. I have talked to them when they are calmer about the fact that if they cannot get on at a particular moment, then go away and do something else - that it is the bickering at each other that gets me down. Anyone any thoughts or suggestions? We didn't have this with our 2 sons, they just had a rough and tumble fight and then forgot about it - it was over in mins.( know this is a girl thing to carry it on for what seems an eternity!!!!) Thanks!

Totally agree with Andy.

Having worked in schools for many years I can say that boys are totally different than girls.  Girls bicker and are much more devious, and as you say arguments can last  indefinitely.    Boys fight and then forget!  Boys are far, far easier to deal with than girls.

Just have to bear with this teenage thing.
My wo are mid 20's now; we didn't think they would live that long !!!!
They are best friends now and have been since the younger reached about 19 (elder 18 months older)
Good luck and remember it DOES get better.
ive been to hell and back several hundred times over the last few years with my 2 daughters, tears tantrums, the lot (including me, threatening to leaving home several times) absolute  murder in our house, fighting ,kicking, screaming. my hubs and me are pretty calm and laid back and cant understand where the youngest one came from, cos shes the one that causes all the trouble. Happily things have started to calm down now, oldest has just left school and youngest is going to high school in sept, so things are a little calmer, but we do still have riots, where i have to wade in like a referee in a rugby match!! lots of luck, you'll need it lol
