At 86 I have long realised that the world,and many of the people in it,are vile.
I have also found that the only way to cope with such situations is not to dwell on them,if I did I would have gone mad.
I now know that there are many awful things/people in the world and I deal with them in following way/s.
Many situations (if not most) I have no control over,so I don't let them worry me.
Many situations,(if not most) do not affect me personally,so I ignore them.
Many "so called" news stories are either fake or hyped up,again I ignore them.
I HAVE seen one of the vilest treaments of man by man,and so any other stories pale into insignificance.
The things you quote are not new,they have been going on in their own way for centuries,it's just that with TV,Newspaper and the Net they are more widely reported now.
Man is horrible creature,the sooner that he is wiped off of the earth the better.
Then it could return to animals,who at least only kill for food.

Animals don't just kill 'only' for food, Mr Veritas. There is a species of bird - shown in David Attenborough's - Nature's Great Events or Planet Earth? (I think the former though) where the female lays 2 eggs and the 1st one that hatches kills the 2nd one or the weaker one. There is no explanation, says Attenborough for why this happens. But animals kill during territorial squabbles as well.
I agree with you that alot of people are 'vile', but we have too remain positive. There are, on the other hand alot of good deeds performed out there. It's just that they don't make the news as they are uninteresting to the masses.

There's nothing to forgive you for, Mr V, you are entitled to your opinion. I'am just stating another point of view, formulated from my experience. I don't think you're a cynic either (that's spelt wrong isn't it?) You're seem to be more of a realist, but the fact is that we can choose to believe what we want?

Seadragon~My problem with humanity is ~I was with the first regiment in WW2 to relieve a concentration camp.
You may have seen film of this,but I can assure you it was FAR worse,you cannot smell on film.
Oddly enough,my wife,who I married a few years later,was in this very camp.
The sights I saw there prompted my god and abyss quote.
