I want to buy my wife a second hand Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec, about 2006/7.

I have been told that some have the camshafts driven by belt and some by chain. Can anyone enlighten me on this subject

Many thanks in anticipation

I'm pretty sure all Zetecs are belt driven.

they should be changed about every 60k
The 'Zetec' 1.25 engine is built by Yamaha and is a generally well built little engine. They all have a Cam belt as opposed to a cam CHAIN.

The cambelt kit, including the tensioner pulley, will cost in the region of 45 to purchase ( GATES do good quality kits, main dealer parts more expensive), Although if you're not a mechanic be sure to get this done by someone who knows how to time the engine correctly, and work on a basis of around 200 - 250 depending on labour rates.

If you're close to 60k then be sure to factor in this cost or ask for some discount on the vehicle ....
