going to devon, exmouth area in a couple of weeks, have been before and visited all the usual places, any body know of any hidden haunts or interesting places to go

Have you been to the tunnels in Exeter, or wandered up Gandy Street with it's unusual shops? How about Trago Mills on the A38 near Newton Abbot, it's a HUGE store with amusements and rides. What about the Nobody Inn at Doddiscombsleigh with it's cheese platters? Dartington Hall with it's range of shops is well worth a visit. Slightly further afield is Blackpool Sands and Splaton Sands, where at Torcross there is a tank which is from the 2nd World War and has been pulled out of the sea. Learn it's fascinating (and sad) history here. Bigbury on Sea is a beautiful beach where you can get the sea tractor across to Burgh Island (where Agatha Christie wrote a couple of her books, in the art deco hotel there), or at low tide just walk across the causeway. Bantham and Wembury beaches are both popular with surfers. Then there's Kents Caverns in Torquay, and the Dart Valley Railway which runs between Buckfastleigh (just down the road from Buckfast Abbey) and Totnes. There's a lovely woodland walk by the river Erme in Ivybridge which passes underneath one of Brunels viaducts (ask at the tourist info in Ivybridge). Have a day out in Plymouth and have a look round the Barbican (the old part) where there is a Tudor garden, or you can go on a boat trip. You can always pick up a guide and walk part of the South west coastal path.
