I was told by a friend today that they know someone whose son apparently passed 17 GCSES last year all at grade A - which made me wonder what is the record number of passes held by an individual and all taken in one year? (I must admit to being slightly cynical about the likelihood of someone taking and passing 17 at grade A in one year!) I have tried to google an answer, but found nothing. Any information or pointers to more information would be appreciated. Thank you

I've got 21 GCSEs but only 14 of those are at grade A, and the most I ever took in one year was only 15, and some of those were in useless subjects such as Metalwork and Russian. We used to collect GCSEs, waste of time in retrospect.

The story has since developed - the same person is also apparently taking 7 A levels next year and predicted for 7 As! My cynicism grows!
