Please can anyone help my sister with this problem

I am at my wits end, I have hyperthyroidism and I am fed up with the medications available. They do not working for me. Who out there has had this illness and is cured without medication or operation? I have had this illness since 2005. I was first on Numericazone and now i am on proplythiouracil which is hard to get and i have not been able to get it since May of this year. All positive advice is welcomed.

thak you all in advance

If the treatment isn't working, then one would have to question the diagnosis.

Radioactive iodine is the treatment of choice.

More details please.....investigations, hospital treatment and if you have a goitre or not.
I've had the radioactive iodine treatment.

Worked a treat!
My cat had hyperthyroidism for several years she had medication from the vet it was expensive too 55p per tablet of which we gave her two per day. (400) per year.

There is an op to cure it but she was too old alas.

I didn't realise humans got it... have you looked it up on Google?

I have had the disease for over 20 years and i take thyroxin, I have toi have an annual test and my dosage has not chnaged since the first year or so.
I have never heard of any other medication or treatment for it, what did your GP tell you after your last annual test?
dot.....wrong avenue my love.

You are being treated for HYPOthyroidism.

delboy is being treated for HYPERthyroidism.
delboy - I had hyperthroidism since the age of 10 - my medication was Carbimazole - this worked fine up until I was 49 then the meds stopped working - I had my thyroid gland removed 3 years ago and have never felt better.

I was offered radioactive treatment, but after doing my research decided that wasn't for me.

I actually was diagnosed with Graves Disease.

Ask to be referred to an endocrinologist at your local hospital.

Not sure what area you live in - but I could give you a few names of specialists.

The "lovely DEN" is quite correct.

What is the cause of your hyperthyroidism?

You need to see an Endocrinologist, although in the NHS of the U.K, I cannot believe that you have been treated for 5yrs without seeing one......!!!!!
