I couldn't understand what the idea was of the two blokes who were trying to get money for their grill thing cutting out fat etc, how was it supposed to work that other contraptions never did?

The idea was to stop the fat running all over the grill pan / barbacue, so you could lift out the tray and wash it easily.
It's always interesting watching an idea that gets them all interested - like the lady with the magnets for linking cables in cavity walls. All the Dragons were instantly keen because like the best ideas it was simple, foolproof, and potentially saleable - unlike the grease-fee grill tray.
