1a - See odd perennials sprouting
(5,3,5) R ? P ? N , ? N ? , L ? E ? S

Presumably the remainig letters are I,O,A,D,E,D from which I can only get Ripon and Leeds- which seems highly improbable!
Or, am I on the wtrong track altogether? - as usual!

Ripon and Leeds (anagram)
'See' as in The diocese of Ripon & Leeds
. . . . See meaning Diocese
As reported earlier it's an anagram of 'odd perennials'. 'See' as in the Bishop's office sense being the definition.
