recently we went on holiday and decided rather than leave mr cat at home and get a daily visit, that we would put him in a local cattery.

when i dropped him off, the cattery owner asked about his eating habits and i said we give a bowl of dry food each morning and each evening, and then at weekends we treat him with sachets of felix instead of the dry food. he is quite old.

when mrs kou picked him up after 2 weeks the cattery man admitted that he'd been feeding him 4 sachets a day and no dry food.

are we underfeeding our cat ? we were going on the advice of the vet that dry food was better for him and his teeth. or is the cattery owner just a plonker and sucker for doe-eyed miaowing ? mr cat has been a bit of a nightmare since we got back! he can hear the fridge door opening from 3 streets away.

murphy gets dry food in the morning and wet in the evening, (and anything she can scrounge of my plate)
You are right to give dry food as feeding purely wet, processed cat food can result in the cat's teeth becoming loose due to bad gums.
The cattery owner should have fed your cat strictly according to your instructions.
Mine are the same as fluffy - dry food out during the day and wet food in the evening.
Maggot is right though - the cattery should follow your instructions.
That's outrageous! What if your cat had dietary requirements? I would complain to the cattery and not use them again!

The one I usually use are pretty strict when it comes to diet as cats are pretty fussy eaters and mine certainly are!

Once he gets back into his routine, he should settle down hopefully but 4 sachets a day seems alot! I usually feed mine dry during the day and wet in the evenings!
Your not under feeding. Cats are greedy and will eat when offered. I have 3 cats and as soon as I go in the kitchen they come running to see whats on offer. Mine get wet food morning and night and biscuit and water down all day. 4 packets a day sounds far to much not to mention expensive.
it's not the job of the cattery to reorganise your cats feeding regime. I've run catteries and have always been meticulous in following the instruction of owners. The cattery is way out of line and should be crossed off your list. What happens if a medical condition had arisen through not adhering to the owner's instructions? Think this is apalling and just goes to show that word of mouth recommendation is the best. Avoid this cattery at all costs and just thank your lucky stars that your kitties are well. Go well
Hi Ankou - that is really terrible of the cattery, as has been said I wouldn't use them again. 4 sachets a day is not excessive just expensive!! (if you've ever seen the Iams tv advert it shows you can be feeding your cat up to 4 sachets per day) Dry food is much better so if possible I'd get your cat back to his usual routine as soon as you can. Hope this helps :-)

thanks for all your answers folks, i thought it was a bit much, fortunately mr cat has survived and doing well and is back to his usual appetite, with a few treats here and there. and the fridge door sensors restored to the usual.

i was a bit peeved that the cattery changed the regime. it didnt cost us any more for the food, so i guess it was their loss. fortunately mr cat came out fine.

you are all right, i shouldnt put my faith and the life of the mogster in the hands of this cattery again.

cheers
mr kou
