I was doing 36mph on a 30mph road,it was actually the first time i had driven my car since passing my test a few days earlier so was still getting used to it etc,(no excuse i know)
anyway im not sure if i was flashed or not but it happened on the 7th July and i have not heard anything yet,so because it was 2weeks ago today can i presume that i never got flashed and does the 2 week rule apply still? my sister is also insured to drive my car so would this make any difference to the 2 week rule? cheers

it should get to you within 14 days, however they dont count the first day, so you can't breathe out till tomorrow!
2 week rule!

no such thing.
I never worry about anything in life until it has happened, as I consider it a waste of time.
Oh yes there is, postdog.
The law states that a Notice must be served within 14 days of the alleged offence on the keeper as recorded at DVLA.

However, if the NIP is received outside that time limit, it may still be valid if the police can show it was posted in time to be normally received within the 14 days.
I hate it when your not sure you got flashed! but hate it more when you are!

drive slower..... thats what i had to do.

Thanks for the info guys,i guess i will give it until the weekend before i relax again lol if the letter arrives after that time then i will use the 2 week notice as my defence and the case will be thrown out!! Eventually lol
Kevo the new cameras do not flash as they use infra red if it is one of the old ones it can flash but may have run out of film . keep your fingers crossed . good luck

Oh dear. I did something similar recently. Took a short cut on a road that I hadn't used in a while - and saw to my horror that there's now a camera there, and the road's used as a bus lane only. There must've been a sign - but I didn't notice it - so I'm waiting.......
Hey Pink does that catch the muggers robbing old ladies of their pension

Or does it raise money for Mr Brown
Question Author
Mog this is definately a flash cam as i pass it most days, but it was a sunny day so would'nt of noticed if it flashed, its a main road that leads to my local Hospital an police and ambulances are always speeding up it so hopefully they have helped use all the film up in the cam (if i was flashed that is lol)
Ice maiden the waiting game is a bloody mental torture on its own isnt it lol if i get 3 points this early on in my driving days (2weeks into) then im not gonna drive for 2 years until my 6 point probation is up lol because i sure dont wanna go through that test again!! Fingers crossed that we are both ok, im bloody paranoid about speed cameras now,so much that its becomin a problem, Pink thanks for the link im gonna have nightmares now lol
The amount of money speed cameras raise for the government is nothing compared to the popularity they'd gain in abolishing them.

So why do they do it?

Because they modify people's behaviour.

Not everybody, but enough to make a difference.

10 people will be killed on the roads today
10 tomorrow
10 the day after.

More will die on the roads this month than all the soldiers in Afghanistan.

Of course they could be removed if we fitted mandatory speed governors to all cars

Or is your objection really that you just want to break the law and don't like to be caught and punished?
peggy
only one in every 20 road accidents is caused by the driver breaking the speed limit, the government has admitted.
critics said the research, based on official police reports, destroyed the case for speed cameras

do they catch drunk drivers , bad drivers or a driver with no licence etc

If possible / convenient try to be around when the postman delivers so you can use him/her as an independent witness to show that the NIP was served out of time
Question Author
Cheers North Star good idea.
The camera may not be operational.
Secondly in some police areas - the speed at which they take action (NIP) is based on the speed limit at that point (1.e. 30,40,50 etc) Plus 10% +2 mph. Thus 35, 46, 57 etc.

There then operates in certain areas, the offer of a
'Speed Awareness course - this has the option of paying a fee , passing a course, but not getting any points.. This option is restricted to one event in three years.

Cautions are also possible- these depend on the local Chief Constable's policy. The above relates to speed cams only, separate policies are used by the actual police.

Read the local police website to ascertain the policies in force. Also any local road safety partnership's info who could be operating the cameras...

There are websites claiming to be able to get you off.
Though the police have tended to get strict on the loopholes these 'get you out of jail' merchants advocate.

Essentially though, especially as a newly qualified driver, stay slow - since your already high insurance premium will escalate if you are caught and reported.
Some folk have even got mates to take the rap, declaring they was the driver - once discovered - jail appears to be the result.
Final warning please ensure you tell the insurance company - at renewal time of ANY offences & fines/points.
Failure to do so can negate your insurance or heavily penalise you. Insurers now, are not averse to ditching illegal drivers after an accident.
Stay away from mobile phones when driving too - a recent
threble crash was allegedly down to driving using one.

Thanks for that informative reply Sam that was very educational, well the good news is that i have not recieved any letters,so it looks like im in the clear this time,i have been driving safely since and it was basically a mixture of getting used to my new car and excited adrenaline of passing my test that caused me to go a bit over. Thanks and best wishes Kev.
average speed cameras should replace ALL existing stand alone cameras. the amount of times a d*ckhead in front of me brakes like a menkle case when they spot the camera is unreal, even if they are not speeding the lead foot comes in to play.
