Because you have it on the wrong setting.

TV pictures come in different shapes/sizes. A lot of people seem to think that because you have a wide screen, you need to stretch the picture to fill every bit of screen. The result is that the picture becomes distorted.

You need to set the screen aspect ratio to 'auto' and that should automatically put the picture into the correct shape.
