My rights reguarding wages

Hello, I have just started work at a place I shall not name. The boss is on holiday at the moment, so I have not had any contract to sign. I was talking to one of the other employees, and he says I will get �4 per hour during training, which is fair enough as I wont be doing as much as the other guys. Then it would increase to the minimum wage.

However, today I was talking to another co-worker, and he said that Training is three months! Also, the boss has told him that he is to get �4.60 per hour after training, which I told him is under the national minimum wage for an 18 year old.

Can someone tell me, what exactly I am entitled to? Is this "three months training" legal? Ive learned how to do the job compleaty after a week (and im doing damn well I may add)

While those people who're on formal apprenticeships (and under 19 years old) aren't entitled to the NMW, ordinary 'trainees' are. That applies from the very first day of their employment, even if they're still at the "all fingers and thumbs" stage and producing far less work than all other members of staff.
