Space, if you are prepared to eat raw ground beef with raw egg in it, after the publicity we have had over BSE in beef and salmonella in raw eggs you are a braver man than me gungadin.

I wish you all the best, I'll be thinking of you Braveheart.

The threat of BSE is no different whether you eat raw or cooked meat - in fact, steak tartare uses finely chopped/minced fillet steak and is therefore less risky than a mystery meat burger.  UK chickens have been certified as Salmonella free for some years now - take a look at a box!

The main health risks do relate to food poisoning, based on the fact that nasties are present on the surface of the meat and so mincing transfers the bugs throughout the meat and lets them multiply to dangerous levels.  However, if you eat steak tartare in a decent french restaurant, they should prepare it frehsly (or even at your table), thus minimising the risk.

My advice - go for the best (but be prepared to pay for it!)  There's nothing like a good steak tartare and, if you are in good health and not elderly, pregnant or a child, no great risk.

(After all that, I can't recommend a restaurant but any decent french restaurant should be a good start)

This isn't really very helpful because I can't remember it's name, but I ate this about 3 years ago in a restaurant close to Waterloo Bridge & the London Eye. So it is still out there !

Found these:

Bistrotheque

Racine

..... google London + restaurant + steak tartare and you'll get loads of links.

Wickes!!( :)
