mobile phone ringtones

How do I get a decent/unusual ringtone on me phone without paying somebody lots of money each week.
Surely I can purchase a tone and have it sent to me phone. I am old and don't understand this sort of technology

have you thought of making your own
it's easy enough .... there are tons of sounds out there

audacity (and a bit of practice) will do the job of extracting the bit you want from a file

it will even record the sound from your PC
(bbc iplayer, radio4 - from DVDs, films etc)

I think most non-clockwork phones can deal with MP3 these days ... and most come with transfer cables

a google of "transfer ringtone" should give some pointers as well
