Create an AVI file

I have subscribed to a site that will let me download movies, but I need to set up an AVI file to download them to.
I have tried Windows Help but I am no wiser.
Can anyone explain what I should do, I am on Vista.

Avi (Audio Video Interleave) files contain both video and audio. do you want to create a AVI file ? if so use windows movie maker and save as a AVI

you download the avi file(s) - movies to a folder .... not create them
