I'm looking after two aquatic turtles for a friend and they dont seem to want to eat. Have had them for about 10 days now and have tried them with their usual food - Beaphar pellets - and have also bought King British dried food to no effect. Any advice please
They seem ok and are enjoying the light being shone into the tank. Have had to buy a new heater as the old one broke and the filter has been cleaned out. I've even re-homed them in an old fish tank as I thought their original one was too small.

When you say you cleaned the filter out .......how exactly did you clean it?

my daughter took the filter pad out and ran under water til all the gunk was gone
There's your answer then! By doing that you have killed all of the beneficial bacteria in the filter.... I know it wasn't intentional but the turtles will now most probably be experiencing an ammonia spike in their tank, which can prove deadly. You need to perform daily water changes....using de-chlorinated water [and at the same temperature to what they are in]......
I suggest you find a forum dedicated to turtles and ask for more help......as I'm a fish keeper with no real experience of turtles, so can only offer you basic help.

Good luck
