1. Windows on my PC was not loading recently - I used the restore discs to reinstall .

2. I Downloaded AVG - Anti Virus - but it wont install because it says i need Windows Service pack 2

3. I Go through the process on Microsift site to download SP2 . Message says - '' The updates are being downloaded and installed ''
However there is no other indication that anything is hapenning .
After a long while message says '' a problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed ''

Any suggestions - please ?

( I used to get a '' Windows Security Centre '' screen automatically loading up whenever i went on line , which I dont get since the reinstall )

Do you want to tell us the version of Windows you are running or shall we guess?

As you want SP2 I assume it is Vista.

Download the standalone version of SP2 from here

It takes a long time to download (it is huge) and a long time to install.

You could copy the downloaded SP2 file to CD or DVD in case you need it again.
Just remembered, you need to download SP1 FIRST before you can install SP2.

Download SP1 from here asnd install it, THEN install SP2.

Pain eh !
Note: Your Vista may already have SP1 on (if it is fairly recent).

In that case you can go straight to SP2.

If you have a "base" version of Vista I was told by a Microsoft guy you have to install fixes in this order

1) Base Vista install

2) Fix KB937287

3) Service Pack 1

4) Fix KB955430

5) Service Pack 2

Sorry

Windows XP

I typed the question out stating it was XP and pressed submit - However it just would not accept the question on the site - ( have to keep pressing the go button numerous times on the http address bar for anything to work on the site - which is another problem i'm having since reinstall of Windows )

Retyped the question again after it ' dissapeared ' and forget to state XP the second time .
For XP you want service pack 3, not 2.

if the windows update won't work download it from here and install it.
