bolting lettuce

Why are my lettuce bolting as soon as I put them out, they don't even begin to heart up?

Plants often bolt through lack of water - especially if they're being transplanted make sure they are getting plenty
I agree with jake-the-peg, they bolt due to drout as they feel they are going to die, so by bolting they can set seed for survival when the rains come.
