Well Irritable Bowel Syndrome is very painful.  The stomach cramps are like a fist grabbing your insides. You get diarrhoea some days and constipation some days.  When pain is bad (without being rude) a good poo can help.  Doctors perscribe things but I've always just got on with it - and 20yrs later it's all but disappeared. Go to your doctors.

i did suffer the cramps, but sstopped stressing and change in diet help me...

i occasionally suffer now, but mainly abdominal swelling...colpermin peppermint tablets help me...

but see your doc as everyone is different when suffering from IBS

Caffeine is often a trigger; as is bread and pasta.
Also stress is bad for if you have IBS.
Every person has to find their own triggers and ways of dealing with it really.

also i forgot to ask, does your diet affect this at all?

I hear that the modern thinking is not enough roughage over  the years, and not enough 'healthy'  type foods, as in raw fruit and raw and cooked vegies, can be the basic cause saxo_boi. (in certain people that is).
Many people get a roughage supplement from health shops to help get back to a normal state.
When you already have the condition and you eat foods with lots of roughage in them, the initial effect is that you may be running to the toilet for a while. Many people go off the very foods that will fix the problem in time, because they think it is making the condition worse....This is why some start the gentle way by getting a supplement, and then gradually increase the roughage diet wise, one thing at a time.
Of course if you are already, and have been always eating lots of raw foods and wholemeal bread etc then what I have said does not count with you. There could be another factor. Maybe you are short of enzymes in your system. (If you live on cooked foods only, this could well be the case). You can buy enzymes from the health shop, you would need one that covers all types of food. Proteins, starches and dairy products. Raw fruit and veg have their own enzymes and are not a problem. Hope this is some help and hope you find your answer.
Hi saxo_boi, I suffer from IBS and have gotten very little help from doctors for it. Basically, I think the medical profession don't really know what it is, what causes it or how to cure it. There are lots of different symptoms of which you might have one or all of them, including: bloadedness, cramps, constipation, diarrhoea (thats all I can remember). I manage mine with my diet which for me means no caffine, lots of water and lots of fibre. But everyones triggers are different, and sometimes they can be very unexpected things like salad or brocolli. I managed to find my triggers by using a method described in a book called IBS Relief by Dawn Burstall which I found really good. Another big trigger is stress which need to be minimised somehow, I'm not so good at this one. And by the way there is no proof that having IBS can cause cancer later in life, bowel cancer or otherwise. I hope this helps and that you find a way to cope with your IBS. M
