I don't wish to do this, but please. Can someone tell me why my broadband cuts off every so often, even in use. I have done all the IE settings changes. Maybe its set up wrongly. Any tips?

If you're using aDSL I've heard that some providers do kick users off after 2 hours. I don't know if their's any truth in these rumours though. I use cable (NTL).
Your ISP have read some of your posts on here and decided to protect you from yourself.

Sorry, I have no suggestions at all beyond contacting your ISP and have BT test the line if applicable? All you'll get out of me at the moment is facetious pap. Yeah, go on, make the "only at the moment" joke. I deserve it.
It might be a good idea to have your line tested, assuming your using BT, if you ring 151 they will do it for you.

Thanks for the advice. I have two computers, a desk station and a laptop. The problem is only on the laptop. It's driving me berserk.

Stevie21, are you ok these days?

If it is only on the Laptop then it has nothing to do with your Network connection and the issue must be to do with the settings or configuration for that particular system.

If the connection works fine when using the desktop PC then you can safely say it has nothing to do with your ISP.

Possible virus/trojan/spyware. Get Adaware software, Zone Alarm firewall and AVG virus scanner. They are all free and available to download from T'internet. When you can get on.

I've just spent all day fixing/adding things on my website (which I've shamelessly plugged on AB already).

My brain's fried and I'm surprised that I even managed to be lucid enough to suggest having your line tested.

I can't really think of any settings at your end that would cause your broadband to cut off.  I know that one program such as Outlook has a setting to disconnect after sending mail but would this apply to broadband?

Oops, I've only just read that the problem is only on the laptop.  Maybe it's something physical like a loose connection with your LAN card/modem or something.

Have you sought out a forum of others with the same ISP?  Anyone there with the same problem? (I'm getting better at this "constructive answer" malarkey!!)

Do you have a satelite receiver hooked up to the phone line. Sometimes people forget about putting a microfilter on it. When the receiver goes to update it's software, it can knock the broadband connection if not filtered.

Excellent point thank you spiegel, no satellite, but a phone, and incoming calls did cut it off til I rearranged filters. Software still cuts it out thoug
Is this a wireless network? Try moving the laptop closer to the access point if so.

No, just regular. The service provider makes internet only accessible by running through their program, which goes to their homepage and resets some internet settings to 20 min idle speed at 5percent. It's driving me up the wall now. Going postal...
I have adsl and no problem, but when I had an internal modem it cut out every 5 mins so it was evenually replaced and now no problem.
