James Maybrick is the most credible suspect.
the watch and diary.... are mammoth pieces of evidence, that cannot be ignored.
every form of tests to see if it's a modern forgery have failed.
therefore, it must be a forgery... from victorian times... the question then asked is... who knew about information in 1889, that only surfaced until the late 1980s?
answer.... The killer.
the man that bore a striking resemblance to an eyewitness who "saw the ripper".
the man whose watch says "i am jack"
the diary admitting his guilt.and more spookily, the man whose motto on the family coat of arms reads... "time reveals all" Convinced?
Before he/they hit the scene in 1888 there was at least a murder a week in Whitechapel, some really gruesome-these were not really noticed until Jack came along-in a in a sense he was one of the greatest social workers of the c19
Interestingly prolonged dabbling with opium/morphine produces apocolyptic scenes in the mind and there was a lot of it about,most medicines contained it and it was available without prescription- perhaps the killer was withdrawing when he committed the crimes.
I onviously believe in the diary.. from my last posting...
Maybrick was definetly known to be an arsenic eater and, also strychnine.
as far as the killings go, i believe that Jack The Ripper, was the name the letter writers (hoaxers) gave.
in the diary he says that he wished his "tradename" was Sir Jim.
therefore.. the letters must be hoaxes(especailly after amount that was posted in claiming to be jack the ripper)
the diary claims the "medicine" gave him power to commit the killings... almost like an adrenaline rush.
i believe firmly there was one killer, and that that man was James Maybrick.
i am fascinated by all the other debates that people can put forward and have read many a different point of view.
Jack the Ripper was certainly not Walter sickert. All Patricia Cornwell did was reinvent the old theory put out in Steven knights book 'The Final Solution' from the 1970's, which first mentioned the whole sickert, sir william gull, royal family rubbish. since then, we have had the 1988 michael caine tv drama, the 'from hell' movie, cornwell's book and other nonsense, all stemming from the 'final solution' book. it's just sensationalism to make movies and sell books. Try reading Paul Beggs 'Uncensored facts' if you can get a copy. I for one agree with a couple of others in that i think he was someone we no longer have any knowledge of. And that could be a doctor or a butcher or anyone else.
Well , unless your friend knows for sure who jack the ripper was, i dont see how he can state that all the awnsers are irrelevant. Unless of course, he wants the awnser that jack the ripper was the name given to the whitechapel murderer of 1888 who was never caught and is generally considered to have murdered at least 5 women in the east end, In which case it is a trick question. Or perhaps he thinks that as jack the ripper would be dead now, there's no point looking for an awnser to his identity! In which case, why ask the question?

This question is a waste of time as there are dozens of theories any 1000 times that amount of web pages on the topic. But I'll answer anyways... Most likley answer, Queen's surgeon. Surgical precision cuts (for the time, anyway). Doctors of old had a history of paying good money for fresh corpses to learn more on human anatomy. If you were surgeon in charge of the royals, you'd want to stay ahead. We'll never know. But then, you'd think that for research you'd want to study the corpse for longer, not just slay them. Queen's surgeon only gets my pick of theories. Could've just been a guy who didn't want to pay for his ******.
The posters who say we may never know are right and of course if we did the subject would not sustain the continued interest. Patricia Cornwell makes the mistake many people have by deciding who was guilty and then choosing the evidence that fits whilst ignoring the evidence that calls her theory into question. Worse still she brings her own emotional dislike of the suspect into her investigation.
Read phillip sugdens excellent book the complete history of jack the ripper, it dysects all the cookie conspiracy nonsense, and concentrates on all the evidence and events as they happened at first hand.....he lists the chief suspects.. of these i think severin klosowski who changed his name to george chapman is the most interesting, he was a polish immigrant who lived in whitechapel at the time of the murders, and had a history of hatred and violence towards women including knive attacks.various other evidence suggest he was a sadist.
he eventually went to the gallows in 1903 for poisoning his wife. the copper in charge of the investigation frederick abberline believed him to be the most likely suspect, in the early 1890s chapman emigrated briefly to america, and shortly after he landed there a similar series of murders began to be perpetrated there, plus he studied medicine and surgery in russia before he came to england.
