Does anyone know of a better systemic weed killer than roundup? I've used it for some years on bindweed but this year, the weed is just sneering at it and shrugging it off before continuing to spread merrily - grrr! I'd be very grateful if anyone could help.

you wont find anything that works better. You just have to keep going with it. Bindweed has such a network of underground roots that it takes a while to kill it all off.

You could try Resolva which has the same active ingredient as roundup with a little something extra to knock the weeds down faster. It will work just the same in the long run but has a faster visual effect.

Thanks, Hawkwalk - I'll try resolva as well.
Have you tried a product called Root Out. It works a treat on brambles too

No, Bullpen, I haven't, but thanks for the info - sounds promising!
bindweed is particularly annoying as it only needs a tiny piece of the root in the soil to grow beyond control. have you dug over the patch recently as you may be breaking the root up?

Oh, yes, tigersam, I have! We had a very overgrown piece of garden - ivy and bindweed - and I cleared it. Then I went on ivy/weed patrol every day and dug up the shoots and roots and it's all but given up! Unfortunately, there's some by a trellis and I can't get at it because of the plants round it and it's this little lot that's sneering at me...
hehe. we had a similar area alongside the garage that we wanted to use for vegetables and it took us about 3 hours to go through the area on hands and knees down to about 12 inches. I'm sure that we still didnt get it all. its like the weed equivalent of a cockroach!

I've already planted veggies and I swoop fiercely on any that dares to show its manky little leaves above ground! With imprecations like "Die, you swine!"
