Ok, it can't be just me that hates this question. I mean how can you answer it??? I like a whole range of stuff and there is nothing you can say that fits into the small talk category. Is it still a problem if you only like one type or is it jst me who thinks it is an evil, evil question??? (Ok, rant over)

Yeha i feel the same....I usually answer with anything except for Opera and Gangsta Rap...seems to cover nearly all the bases.
Just say that you have an eclectic/catholic taste in music. Of course, half the time people will say 'huh?' so you'll end up explaining yourself anyway
I like dub skiffle. Some of the stuff that's coming out of Pembrokeshire at the moment with the new carbon-fibre washboards... wow! :-)
Yes this is a totally evil question because if you tell them you've embraced the dark side (ie rock, metal etc) like I have particularly if you like bands that haven't had a top 40 hit, it tends to be a bit of a conversation killer. Sometimes it a great question because you find someone who's really into music and it's interesting but not often enough
I get it everyday - and I work for a major music store

I'm glad I'm not alone.

More and more I'm finding that I'm taloiring my answer to the type of person I'm talking to. I guess that's the benifit of liking everything, yet I always feel guilty if I'm talking about Placebo and Nine Inch Nails and leave out Arethra Frankin and John Coltrane etc
