renewal of a childs pasport

hi there this question is for a close friend of mine who is a bit confused, he has signed his childs first ever passport, does this mean that he has to sign every passport renewal until the child is eligible for a adult one, also he is no longer with the childs mam who is now married to someone else, hope this makes sense and any advice would be great help.

Usually, both parents are required to give their consent, by signing, if the child is to be taken out of the country, (for obvious reasons).
