Ah...but Paul Potts won the first series of Britain's Got Talent.

This is Paul:

I think that proves that in Britain we're willing to give the average Joe (or Paul) a chance if he or she has enough talent.

shes no messiah

and purely on her voice the other evening

i hae to say she wasnt the best singer .

nothing to do with being a munter

she was offf on the singing for sure

I saw something really interesting about the British psyche on BBC4 a few weeks ago.

It's not so much that we like to 'build them up, then knock them down'...it's down to the 'support the underdog' thing.

Take for instance Susan Boyle. We like to see someone who looks hopeless having a go...but then it reaches a critical mass and all of a sudden, they're not the underdog any more.

The example given related to a Wimbledon final where (I can't remember the names) one player was way outclassed, so the crowd started encouraging him.

Then when he started to pull ahead, they switched to encouraging the other player who was now considered 'in need of support!!!

Weird.
No she isn't but good luck to her - I'm sure just appearing will have done a lot for her self worth which in my book is a good thing
Susan Boyle hopefully will not win BGT she is not a patch on Paul Potts or Faryll Smith. As for Stavros Flatley and Son where is the talent, yes they did make me laugh at the first audition but now it is boring ,as for thanking his son for letting him dance that was for the public to vote for them.
Lets have something different for a chance.
sp1814.......yes, on reflection you are quite right....we do go for the underdog, but as soon as he doesn't become the underdog and is succesful, we tend to knock him/her down............weird....I agree.

Lets have something different for a change !!!

Quite agree but while Simon Cowell. is on the panel of judges, we won't get something different.

He seems obsessed with dance groups and singers, something he personally can make some money out of.

I personally thought that the ventriloquist should have got through he was genius and he promised more.

I think it is also unfair to let the panel pick the other act to go through to the final, because once again if Simon does not like an act, even if they haver managed to get into the last three they stand no chance of making the final.
