In the recent past there were larger mammals in Britain.  Fossil Mammoths have been found in bogs in England dating from just over 100, 000 years ago.  Further back of course there were those children's favourites, the dinosaurs.

The biggest mammal in britain is a person called Bernard Manning, I think you will find that this species outweighs the red deer by more than 200 hundred pounds.
