How long after the best before date can you still drink Lager. My mate at work has found 72 cans of Stella (don't know how you can just FIND that much lager) in his garage with BEST BEFORE MAY04. Does anyone know if they would be OK to drink.

Thanks Denise...I've just told him, but he doesn't want to risk it. I'm now the proud owner of 72 cans of Stella less than 2 weeks before christmas....RESULT
He he, good for you shortstop. Does your friend not realise that we originally brewed alcohol as it prevented us getting the lurgies from bad drinking water? His loss, your gain! Anything that is in a can or bottle is fine for yonks. The only thing I wouldn't muck about with is home brew- my brother's mate decided to sample it before it was ready and he was ILL!
a certain chain of public house that sells cheap beer etc is selling beer very near to sell by date thats how they can put offers on..it will be fine..home brew is not supposed to be drunk before its ready as its still fermenting,,and can make you a bit green around the gills,,,yuk,,,happy drinking ..gypsy
Looks like someone will be having a happy christmas..... or what they can remember it!  Lucky ****** have a good one :o)

Or if that last comment offended the PC brigade out there Seasons Greetings.........although you live in a Christian country, get used to it!!!!
Be careful, i once drank 12 cans of stella that was two months out fo its sell by date. and the next morning my head really hurt and my stomach was a bit squelchy. ;)
Mr.Ix - 12 cans of Stella does have that effect.

A 'best before date' usually means just that. The quality and taste deteriorates after the BBD. But with anything in a tin, this is usually a very slow process. If you were to compare a fresh tin of beer with the ones you have, you would probably notice a slight difference in freshness, but not enough to ruin the experience.

Do I win one for my answer?

I found some bottles of Hofmeister in the garage that were like 3 years out of date, openeed one up to see what it was like and it had gone very bad indeed! But as for homebrew, if you don't take care (hygenically) when making it, it will make you very ill, just as if you don't take proper hygenic care in any other area. Otherwise it will be fine.

Hey guys! My boyfriend works in a bar & he's brought home a lot of alcohol (Vodka UDL's etc.) that is out of date by like 2yrs. He wants to just try each one & see what they're like, but I would rather know if they are any good before drinking them. Any ideas?
