I've found funnel web spiders in my garden but I thought they only lived in hot countries. Are they dangerous? It's got brown legs if that helps...

Are you sure - they are only found in Australia.

They are very dangerous and the bites can be fatal.

There is a spider in England called Tegenaria, and they make funnel shaped webs.... perhaps that is what you have....
Question Author
Well, that's the mystery solved.
It's a common british spider which, although dangerous to bugs, is harmless to humans.
Which is really good news cuz the family are huddled indoors protecting themselves with brooms and pan lids etc.
Well, thank goodness for that, a fantastic piccy though, gotta be printed off and framed...... ;-)

You can all get back in the garden now.....

Have a great weekend.... :-)

Hi check this link or type in Agelena labarynthica (The tunnel web spider) into google. These do exist in the UK. I am pretty certain I have just found one in a hole in my garage wall, its a fairly agressive little thing. I found your question when looking for the answer to the very same question myself.

Regards
Graham
