Can anyone tell me WHY my optical mouse keeps freezing, three times today it's happened, the little cursor just sits on the screen and the light has gone out on the mouse, I have to keep shutting the computer down, unplug the mouse then replug and restart the computer (as described on the troubleshooting page) it then works fine.

Does the mouse have a battery in it?
Question Author
not sure, never had the back off, it is about 3yrs old and this is the first sign of trouble so could have a look.

Rollo, can't get the back off because it needs a really fine phillips screwdriver, as soon as I can get hold of one I'll give your suggestion a go, thank you.
Then I doubt it does have a bnattery, because a mouse that needs one should have a battery cover that is obvious and easy to remove.
Is it plugged in to the USB port properly ? If the light is going out it can't be getting the power supply it needs ... you could try plugging it into another USB port to see if that fixes the problem.

I think it might be down to being pulled when in use, sometimes there doesn't seem to be enough cable and it gets tugged when being used, the times I have shut down and restarted the computer I take the 'mouse' out and replug and then it works ok, thank you.
