Because no-one gets fussed about nickel.

Nine Carat Gold has got 15 percent something else, one of the else's is copper. Nine carat is the rating of its fineness or quality. Fourteen carat gold has less content of other metals but the copper content is greater making it rose coloured.
As I used to work in a jewellers I may be able to help/

Pure Gold~ 24 carat (but too soft to make anything from)

22 Carat Gold~ 22 Parts Gold/2 Parts Copper

18 Carat Gold~ 18 Parts Gold/6 Parts Copper

9 Carat Gold~ 9 Parts Gold/15 Parts Copper.

In the USA and other countries they have different Gold/Copper Amounts.
