What about Gmail.co.uk or gmx.co.uk?
I'm confused.

Do you want a domain name, that you could use with a web host for a website, and also as an email address, or just an email address?

just an e-mail address but i got told i needed to buy a host and domain name and dont know where to start or what company to trust. thanks
Well, my recommendation would be Googlemail:

http://mail.google.com

It's free to use, for any purpose (including business use), and comes with lots of free space and the best spam filter available right now.

The only down side with this is that your address will not be 'professional', in that it's going to be something like [email protected].

If you want to get an email address like [email protected], then it gets more complicated. It'll cost you about 6 every two years for your domain name, and perhaps some extra if you want a website at that address.

Write back with what you'd prefer, and I can add more instructions :)
You should have email addresses from your ISP and they will probably end in .co.uk.

the latter to avoid having an e-mail address ending in google mail thanks.

Have you heard anything about gmx mail? trusted site? any problems?
I don't know anything about gmx.co.uk, so can't comment.

To get your own domain, go somewhere like this:

http://www.123-reg.co.uk/

Buy a domain from there (don't bother buying anything else that they offer, just the domain).

Once you have this (or after a few days), you'll probably want to get a cheap web host too. I recommend web-mania; they're good value, and do the job well.

http://web-mania.com/

That's about 30 a year.

And then you want email; I can recommend using Google Apps for your Domain for this. What this effectively does is give you a Gmail address (with the advantages I detailed above), but using your own domain, like [email protected].

The Google Apps thing is free.
