hello all! I have goldfish (well it green actually!) who lives in an aquarium. Over the last 3 days has swollen up but not outwards, its swollen downwards if that makes sense.

I had some fish which died of dropsy last year and this seems totally different - the fish seems very well in every other respect, scales are not protruding eyes look fine, fish is active and eating.

So what could this be? Is it a problem?

could it just be a female filling with eggs as the spawning season approaches ? warmer temps and longer daylength will trigger spawning and any unused eggs will often be reabsorbed back into the fishes system.

Thanks for your suggestion, I've just been doing a bit of reading on the subject - seems like a likely explanation.

A poster clled 'Peace taker' suggested someone had filled the fish with helium, but now they and thier posts have now been removed!- I'm not a crazy person who can talk to the fishies honest!! :)
