Am off to Ibiza this week and have noticed that the Euro coins I acquired in Ireland last year all have 'Eire' all over them. Will I still be able to use them in Ibiza? If the Euro is supposed to be a common currency, why does it have its country of origin emblazoned all over it?

Yes, your euro coins will be fine in Spain.  All Euro coins and notes are acceptable in all countries which use them.

I'm not sure of the reason why the coins have the country of origin.

Yes come on over and spend 'em.  Here in Ibiza we love all euros. It's actually interesting to see all the different designs from all the countries.  Where are you coming to in Ibiza???

All the paper money is the same so in order that some national Identity remained each country in the Euro was allowed to put their own national symbols on the front of the coins so there are lots of versions of all the coins. They are equally valid in all Eurozone countries. I was in Ireland last week and a bit bored in the pub so we went through our pockets to see who had a coin from the furthest Eurozone country. Disspointingly they where all from Ireland, Spain and France.

Netibiza- we're staying at the El Greco in Portinatx- my clubbing days have long passed!

Perhaps you can tell me- what happened to the Ku Club (between San An. and Ibiza Town) which I remember going to in the 80s when it was the place to go? It cost a bomb to get in to back then and the drinks were really expensive but the totty was amazing and it had a dance floor over the swimmming pool. (The in-sound then was Da Da Da and Sabrina with Boys Boys Boys and that bikini!)

I have just checked my small change and I have coins from Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands and Germany (I live in Belgium).

Kos - its now called "privilege" and is still expensive but is one of the places to go. I went once in the early 80''s and that was it.  Enjoy Portinatx - I'm in Sta Eulalia. Still a bit chilly at night though - warming up in daytime.
I too am in Ibiza from June 21st onwards for a fortnight. Stayed in Eivissa Town. Kos - I went to Privilege for one night and never again. It's vast, the biggest club in the world, but I think it knows it. It's expensive, overcrowded and pretentious. And speaking as someone whose other half is Ibicenco, he tells me that Privilege is no longer the place to go - that is Pacha or Es Paradis.
