I always thought that Africa was not a continent but when I google it it says it is

Yes Africa is definitely a continent. It's a collection of other countries.

I can only assume he was getting confused with South Africa which is a country.

Nah I know for definare when I used to do Geography at school there was a mock exam I did and one of the questions in there I was the only one who got it correct as it was to do with continents and the place wasn't one.

Google says Asia is too so It wasn't that one.
Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica are the usual ones plus North and South America though occasionally those get combined into one.
The mind boggles.
Africa is a continent, you can't get more than a continent than Africa is, it's definitely a continent and always has been.
As opposed to being IN-continent.
