When you see a film at the cinema is it still shown on a projector. Is the film still on a big reel? Or have they converted to some sort of disc system?

yes most all cinemas still on large single reel a few have gone digital with the DLP system, not as good as film (yet)
the new kid on the block is the image sent by satellite to the"projector" from some central store so no need top transport heavy and costly film or packs of dvds to the cinema
the only really state of the art cinema in the uk is the odeon Leicester square
