doves and magpies

What a funny sight! A Magpie landed on our pergola then hopped onto the apple tree next to it. A dove then persued its path. The Magpie kept squarking and the dove just hopped after the Magpie. It looked quite odd, especially as the dove is so much smaller than the squarking Magpie! Are doves territorial? We dont normally get Magpies in the garden so it was unusual all round.

Magpies take chicks and eggs so other birds do chase them away, especially during the breeding season.
This morning a blackbird attacked a magpie in my garden.

Thanks ethel. Yes I guess that's what is happening here. The size comparison looks so strange but watch out magpies!
