I object strongly to the requirement for this crossword's solution to reach the Telegraph by Wednesday. There are no postal collections on Sunday oir Monday. Thus, you have to use a first class stamp to have any chance of getting your entry in by the required time. THIS IS A RIPOFF. How about a few letters of complaint to the editor?
I totally agree with you, it happens in our local rag too because all answers must arrive by Tues am, so this week I havent bothered to buy the later.
have a good weekend Dee
I totally agree too. It's ridiculous. There is only one postbox in my area which has Sunday and bank holiday collections but it's a little far so I don't often use it. I'll send mine on Tuesday by first class, but even Royal Mail say that there is no guarantee that first class will arrive the next day. The cryptic is due in on Thursday, so why can't they extend the gk date to Thursday too?
The odds are so heavily against you that any stamp is a waste of money. But if you put on a second class your entry might arrive this week, next week or whenever.
As with the lottery, if you buy a ticket it's just for the fun of being in the running - buy more than one and you have to be barking!
Correct. There are NO Sunday or Bank Holiday collections, and haven't been for some months. All part of the Royal Mail trimming and improving efficiency drive.
In this part of SW Scotland we have no postal collection between mid day Saturday and 5pm Monday every week. The mail only gets to Carlisle about 7pm Monday and then has to be to be sorted. I have long suspected that even a 1st class letter is not delived in London by Wednesday. I quite realise that the vast majority of Telegraph readers will be from down south but I have never seen any prize winner from this area although I have been doing the GK Crossword for several years.

Some boxes definitely still do have a Sunday and bank holiday collection, at least in this area, although they seem to be few and far between. Coming back from church this morning I saw a post box being collected!
Okay for all you guys but I work in Brussels and I think it is a shame that you can not submit it online, as no way is mail going to get to the UK from here in time.
I agree with Kornat, if it's available online one should be able to submit it the same way.
I live in France and don't get the paper until Sunday, so have NO chance of getting it in in time.
