I'm not a moaner or killjoy but all these people who ask for the answers to crosswords must have access to the internet to find their answers, or are they just too lazy and go straight to the answerbank. I agree with Lie-In- King that we should help if we can but,I only use answerbank if I really can't find the answer myself, and i'm an 'old timer'!!That's my moan for the day now I can get back to my gardening :-).

It's not the answer that usually gives the trouble, Quizzwhizz44, but analysing every bit of the clue to see if the setter has really done it elegantly. What we moan about is the last little letter that you can't account for, but perhaps it doesn't bother you?
Isn't using this site using the internet to find their answers?
Some of the questions put to answerbank for help are astonishing and I'm guessing that that is your real bugbear. I have a stack of reference books that I enjoy getting some use from - a search for one thing becomes a series of tangential discoveries... Googling can be a similar exercise. Cracking cryptic clues is a challenge to be relished. The hunt for the answer is the fun of the thing. Sometimes though, something just won't reveal itself and thats when it's 'thank heavens for the 'bank!'
ps - I had never heard the term 'greenmail', my only visit to the 'bank today...
if it bothers you that much, solution simple, dont provide the answers, and why would YOU be on the ANSWER bank,if all these people who ask for the answers to crosswords etc etc,was you looking for an ANSWER?

Yes I was Looking for the answer to 36down but I also use. Pears cyclopaedia, dictionary, and 60 plus years of learning.read my first comment again.!! I agree that looking in answerbank is using the internet, but it's not using a search engine. Thank God for Lie-in-King at least I presume HE understood what I was trying to say.:-)
The reason I resort to the Answerbank (as a last resort )is not laziness. I ave a pretty good selection of reference books, which I actually prefer . \if they fail I google, and today ai needed to ask one question, as I knew I would get a quicker answer than pouring through the hundreds of characters in Coronation Street. I enjoy the whole process, and where would we be without Lie-in-King she is the best encyclopaedia that I know.)

We can't all be Brains of Britain and as such thank heavens for answerbank!
also, logging on here gets a more personal response for those who may not get out alot.
firstly you should try yourself either on the net or with ref books, then if you still cant come up with the answer ask on A/B. Some people cant be bothered to do this, but they still enter for the prize money, they are not too lazy for that.
I agree with you wholeheartedly Quizzwhizz44. Some of the questions are unbelievable - they want an answer to a 4-letter question and have 2 of the letters!
I couldn't believe it yesterday when someone wanted the answer to Offensive gesture once used on television by Harvey Smith (1-4) and they had sign! You don't even need to know who Harvey Smith was.
I admit AB is useful but only after I have answered everything I can, then used my reference books, then internet for last few and AB for perhaps last two. That way I get pleasure from solving as much as I can myself.
If I just came on AB to get all the answers - where would the achievement be in that?
I like to help to and have answered questions on AB by going on the internet so why can't the people do that for themselves - laziness?
Well that's my moan for today too!
Quite agree with Dee Sa. Use your brain and ref books first. Use Google or another search engine if no luck and as last resort go to the Answer Bank.
I won the big 1000 several years ago and that was with no internet!
It does amaze me the questions that people do ask.

..... yes, you are a moaner and a kill-joy.

and, why should an easier question draw criticism?

too much intellectual snobbery on this thread ....

Thank heavens someone agrees with me. I am NOT an intellectual snob or a killjoy, but an ordinary almost 70yr old who still likes the challenge of a good crossword. To all those who think differently do you know the saying, USE IT OR LOSE IT! this doesn't just apply to the Post Office but also to the brain.
