Not sure if this is the right section for this Q but.......

A while ago I heard someone describing a flashing light.....bear with me on this.

A flashing light which is ON for longer than it is OFF is called a ??????? light, and vise versa is called a ?????? light.....if that makes sense.

I guess one which is ON for as long as it's OFF also has a name too?

Any info on what these terms could be would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

We define "flashing lights" as a regular on-and-off cycle, which repeats. The light need not stay on as long as it stays off, but each on period is as long as any other on period, and each off period matches all other off periods. This is in contrast to "flickering lights", which we define as having a random or irregular element
In nautical terminology...
Light ''on'' shorter than ''off'' = Flashing light.
Light ''on'' equal to ''off'' = Flashing light.
Light ''off'' shorter than ''on'' = Occulting light.
