Can some medication cause nightmares?

I am currently taking preventative medicine for migraines. Started them about three weeks ago. For the last week or so, I have woken up every night, sometimes more than once, with really nasty nightmares, to the point where I am screaming out loud and lashing out at things that I think are there. I know it sounds funny but believe me it really isn't. I have looked on the side effects list but nightmares are not on there. I'm wondering if I should stop taking them.

What tablets are you taking?
Some can. My Mum's other half is on meds after having a heart attack. He has horrendous nightmares and wakes up from them almost every night. The med he is on is known for this particular side effect. The choice for him is: nightmares or drop dead!
Have you tried googling looking on google to see if there are known side effects, and also going back to your doc about it?

Pizotifen is the name of the tablets. I havent eturned to the docs yet as I thought I was being a bit presumptious.

Just googled it. They can cause difficulty in sleeping and hallucinations. I had no idea they would effect me like this. Not sure what to do now.
Not a well known side effect, but if there were no nightmares before you took the Pizotifen and now they have developed, it is very suspicious that they are causing the problem.
Go back to your GP.
Hi Icemaiden,

Mine caused bad dreams for a couple of weeks then settled.... I actually quite enjoyed dreaming... even if they were a bit scary... I take low dose naltrexone.

Maybe give your tabs a while to settle in and see if your dreams calm....

Thanks guys.

Luxury..I have also put on a stone in weight since going on them, another side effect of the drug. Think I will go back to my GP.
I really do not wish to put on anymore weight! Fat enough as it is!

Hope you get it solved.

Hi Icemaiden
I can relate to your problem as I have also tried just about everything to ward off nasty migraines. I have been having cluster migraines for over 4 years now and when a friend recommended FEVERFEW a herbal capsual (2x380mgs each morning) I haven't had an attack for 3 months. I can't believe it , so far so good.

I'm willing to try anything Unbeliever. Where can I buy these?

Luxury...Thanks for your kind words.
