Do anyone know if there was an official caution given by arresting officers in the 1880s?

No, not until Judges' Rules in 1912 made it mandatory for police officers to advise suspects of their right to remain silent.
Before then, silence could be taken to be an admission of guilt, and refusing to answer questions was used against the accused.
