Why am I finding it difficult to buy a built-in gas oven? Have manufacturers stopped making them? If so, why?

Can't understand the difficulty. Have you tried doing a Google search for 'built-in gas ovens'? Simply loads of links to choose from.

Of course I've tried doing a Google search. The fact is that even on Google, gas ovens are a minority item. Shops don't seem to stock them - they have to be ordered in. You look at all the brochures of the main manufacturers and they display 90% or more electric ovens with just a token gas oven. Why? What has caused this shift to make a gas oven such a rarity? Has there been some legislation that is leading to a phasing out of gas ovens or is it that the majority of people do not want them? If they don't want them, why? What is the perceived advantage of electric over gas? Is it the quality of the cooking or the convenience of not having to install gas supplies in to new build homes?
New safety regulations came into force last year regarding gas cookers. The problem was that manufacturers and retailers were so slow in taking action that they were stuck with stocks of many older and unsuitable cookers. Most of them didn't even have the newer cookers for sale on the day the regulations came into effect. Presumably, the effects of this mess are still being felt. See here.

Thanks for that answer heathfield. I am reassured now that the lack of gas ovens is only temporary and so will go ahead with looking for a replacement. Thanks also hc4361 for those links.
